Using the pan from ubuntu I see "Unrecognized image format" for any jpeg with more than one part, completely reproducible. As I said earlier, I do *not* see this problem with pan from your git repository, so I'm assuming that the ubuntu devs haven't yet picked up all your patches. Happy New Year!
