     This is my problem. fixed.

Well, the good news is that pan no longer segfaults and dumps core when
I start it with gzip compression enabled. I guess that's something.
However, I still don't get any headers with supernews when compression
is enabled. Anything else I can try?

i'm working on a fix. be patient, it'll be online in a few days.

cheers.
Seems like this is working now. If you want to, test it.
Giganews group listing and headers work,
as well as XZVER on astraweb.
Two separate problems I've run into on my first attempt:

First: pan/general/locking.h:50: undefined reference to `pan::Mutex::mutex'

I got pan compiled by deleting the ! from the test on locking.h:47 :p
and got gazillions of deprecation warnings but pan compiled and runs.

The second problem is that pan wouldn't make a connection to the server, so
I opened the Edit Servers dialog box and found that the setting for SSL is
not even shown there, so pan is apparently mis-parsing servers.xml for some
reason :(
What do you mean: The options to set/unset it are missing or that
pan doesn't respect the settings made by you?

Cheers.
