I was wondering about making the new "makeinfo" also understand the
options --dvi and --pdf, which would translate into a call to texi2dvi
or texi2pdf.
It's not entirely trivial, since which command-line options can be
passed and which can't would have to be determined. But compared to
everything you've already done, that seems like it should be pretty
simple :).
Then there would be one command which could generate everything.
And maybe that "generic" command should be a new executable "texinfo",
with the ASCII output that you mentioned.
