Yes, but having special characters at the begging or end currently causes
a problem with aspell when it comes up with suggestions.  While aspell
knows to try both "<word> and <word> when checking, aspell will use
"<word> when comming up with suggestions that means that a misspelled word
at the start of a normal quotation will cause problems as the
suggestions for '"Thiss' will be 'This' etc....

That is for a middle character when forming compound words.
