Not that the idea is worth all that much (at this stage), but now that I am retired, I have this dream of creating an "Everyman's Sequence-Editor", which is much more intuitive, and works equally well (if not better) for blind people.  It will be designed to work best at playing by ear, and improvising tracks with other music. 

Again, it's only a dream at this stage. 

I have a musician-friend who is blind, and your situation gives me even more motivation to pursue that dream.

On Rosegarden: I should have mentioned that I am almost blind and 
somehow wedded to the command line unless developers undertook the 
effort to use the accessibility features of Qt etc. so screen reading 
software like Jaws for Windows or Orca for Gnome can grab the screen 
content. But developers are a lazy bunch as we all know ;-)
