Going to one directory above $HOME in itself is not useful. However,
if you have DIRED functions defined, `g' => `..' => [CR] takes you
to .. in DIRED mode. I find the filer functions of Lynx very user
friendly, so do my students, most of whom, believe it or not, don't
even know what OS (let alone SunOS) is, other than a rude way of
saying `hello'. The reasons for liking Lynx as a news reader that
I posted the other day equally apply to Lynx's DIRED functions.

If you have DIRED defined, then you'll know that it's not just
"ls -agl ..", or whatever you have defined for the ls format.

I would not want to trade the utility of `..' for `one up arrow and the
necessary milliseconds of holding down backspace'. Your point is taken
if the present URL was reached by pressing a link. One workaround, until
Tomasz's patch is suitably implemented, is to use cut-n-paste to the `g'
buffer from either the history or visited page.

Even if I do say so myself, I like this motto:
If you can't hack it, lump it.
