I haven't looked at the code for textareas, but from the
user's point of view a textarea looks like a sequence of text input fields.
(Each line has a different link number/anchor associated with it and the
statusline is the same when you're sitting on a textarea as for individual
text entry fields.)
Presumably the user would have to know when it is appropriate to
invoke the editor.  (Or do you think an editor should also
be allowed for text entry fields?)

Just a thought.
