Every time I've seen this error message before, it indicated a dying
hard disk, or a raid controller corrupting data.  Could be something
else, including a bug in monotone, and we want to know if so, but...
you might want to check your SMART logs etc.

(Monotone turns out to be a rather good canary for such issues.)
