I am loath to compile applications on my Ubuntu computer, only because I am 
worried it won't be compatible with who-knows-what package I may happen to get 
later. I would be OK doing this if you could assure me that your setup.py 
script not going to cause compatibility issues down the road.

I plan on moving to Gentoo soon (in fact, that's why I'm backing up) so this 
whole compile issue should disappear then.
