Yes, I deleted the pyc file and the same error appeared.

Has to: because I deleted the whole duplicity folder in site-packages 
before "python setup.py install --prefix=/usr/local". Duplicity does 
not work when the library folder is in /usr/local/lib so I moved it to 
/usr/lib. The file date is from 26/12/2007 11:40.

Anyway: I could reproduce the "No backup chains found" error on a 
Gentoo Linux VM with a standard installation.
