This is the tack I've taken - there is an option to export the record either
as a single pdf containing everything (indexed so the user can just jump to
any section - including results/documents) , and or as multiple single pdfs so
the other practice can import each letter, certificate. Single pdf has the
advantage it can be searched.

When the multiple pdf option is chosen then the documents are named eg Jim-
Busser_ED_JohnHunterHospital_Acute_Myocardial_Infarction_0102010.pdf, so that
it is intelligable to whoever is receiving it.

In Australia when I get patient records from another practice I just ring the
path labs and within 1-2 minutes all their past pathology (even going back 10
years) ends up in my inbox as the hl7 files which I then import.

If you've not played with it take a look at wkhtmltopdf (but use the qt
compiled static version as it does all sorts of fancy things.

But I'd agree with jim - without export gnuMed cannot be taken seriously.
