We get something similar, although it hasn't ever been enough of a
problem to spend much time on.  We run cfd 1.6.3 on OpenBSD 2.6 and
2.8, and about once every month or two, this exact problem will
occur.  The next time it happens, I'll do a little more poking 
around.
