Hello all

There is a thread going on in this list about sharing for rare files
and such, and special options for those files and such.

Since everyone and the cat can give opinions on the matter, I decided
to throw in my two cents too:

How about a rare_file_threshold option? This option would represent the
number of full sources available on the network for a file, and if we are
sharing a file with more than that threshold, we would not share it for a
while, preferring other files with less sources.

I don’t know if I made any sense with this. Let me try to give an
example:

        Uncle_Joe_Xmas_songs.mp3 450 sources
        Aunt_Bertie_topless_in_ibiza.avi 2 sources

        Rare_file_threshold = 300

So, in this case mldonkey would share the avi file because it has
fewer available sources in the network (ie, rare file) and stop sharing the mp3
(either for a while or until number of files drop below the threshold).

The end result for this is that rare files will be favoured over common
files, creating a “minimum” source level for all files on the network.
(eventually ☺ )

        Thank you for your time,
        João Correia
