error:
emacs: Could not open file: /dev/tty

The edit tab/window is just gray.  Cannot type anything into it.  Cannot open
an m-file

Same things happen with @8.3.

Used to all work with version 8.4, which I cannot figure out how to get back
to.

versions 9.1 and @8.3 installed using Homebrew
