I don't use SuSE, but that sounds awfully like the clock being set to UTC
time. All Unix boxes should use UTC time, because that way daylight
savings time and other things are correctly displayed. If you dual boot,
however, Windows will not like this.
Of course, if the system clock is set to UTC, it still should display your
time correctly, as it does for me in RH 8.0. On the external shell account
I have, if I set the variable TZ in the shell, it displays the correct time
for my time zone. This is the line in the shell profile:
export TZ="EST5EDT"
