Nope, I concur with you, and, IMHO, it's a bug.

And I have to disagree, and instead agree with Darren's post - The
above suggestion would prevent me from filtering my subscribed groups.

Perhaps one possible solution is to have a search-term history
dropdown, and a button to clear the current search selection.
