I do think it could make sense, but I don't know if we'll have a reason to do
so.  I think (without reasoning based on looking at code) that cloning a
destructive reader could take extra code for safety.  So it'd be fine with me
if there was an assertion there now, especially if the case of cloning a
destructive reader doesn't get tested.
