That's definately a good idea (even though the per-user probability of
not reading is still pretty high).

So the configure script would be the natural place to put the check.

Yes... however if it affects only users of the C compiler feature of
cscc, I think that quickly putting out a new version of pnetC with the
added configure check would be a pretty foolproof method of informing
them that they need to get a pnet snapshot.  (If pnet _seems_ to work
fine, but pnetC fails to build, people will go looking for a bugfix
version of pnetC, so the most foolproof way to communicate to them
would be to put out a new pnetC version, I think.)
