Pathologists who feel some responsibility for results delivery have contrasted
for me that

(1) in the case of paper (or PDF) reports issued by the path lab, the
pathologists can be confident about the adequacy of the information adequacy of
what is displayed in the reports, whereas

(2) in the case of results-as-encoded-messages, they have no idea what the
clinical data will look like, once it is in an EMR.

Some of them seek reassurance from clinicians who are using EMRs whether in fact

- "all" (?) of the test information is getting into the EMR and
- "all" (?) of the information is displayed to the clinician acknowledging
(signing) the result

In the rest of this thread I will take the HL7 segments one at a time …
