Thanks for the feedback! As I told in my reply on Hal's mail, I'll do something to resolve against the default IANA port number if the first attempt failed.
With regard to the PPS vs. TPV hopping, I'll try to make the driver wait for PPS to come back for a while before switching to unaugmented TPV processing. And complaining loudly when it switches over.
Since midnight is approaching over here in Germany, I won't code anything more today. I'll tell you when I have the next shot ready!
