I have another version in

That shook things up nicely. See attached log and screenshot.

Now GPS_JSON fails loudly:

robin ntp-4.2.8p1-RC2 # fgrep JSON tmp.log
  3 Feb 11:59:43 ntpd[15698]: GPSD_JSON: failed to resolve 'localhost:gpsd',
rc=-8 (Servname not supported for ai_socktype)
GPSD_JSON: failed to resolve 'localhost:gpsd', rc=-8 (Servname not supported
for ai_socktype)
3 Feb 11:59:43 ntpd[15698]: GPSD_JSON(0): no GPSD socket address, giving up

Thanks for the feedback! As I told in my reply on Hal's mail, I'll do something to resolve against the default IANA port number if the first attempt failed.

With regard to the PPS vs. TPV hopping, I'll try to make the driver wait for PPS to come back for a while before switching to unaugmented TPV processing. And complaining loudly when it switches over.

Since midnight is approaching over here in Germany, I won't code anything more today. I'll tell you when I have the next shot ready!

Cheers & thanks again
