With tmux, you can do almost everything you can do with your
computer, including suspending a process. More than that, if
you use tmux, you don't have to suspend and resume processes
as you maybe may choose to do if you for some reason choose to
operate your text editor and programming environment in
a single window with no possibility to open an new shell pane
or go to another window.

Luckily there is a solution solution to these problems:
Control-Z

Indeed, for the tmux solution to work - and actually tmux in
general - tmux has to be installed.
