Follow-up Comment #83, bug #31080 (group octave):

First, congratulations to all on possibly finally tracking down this rather
frustrating problem (Sep 2010, assuming there isn't something older that was
closed before!). no embarrassment expected, as described it was a difficult
one to troubleshoot.

I suspect to verify the bug and fix mmuetzel is suggesting a test that can
recreate a situation related to that ~7minute time interval defined by the
magnitude of the bit shift that was corrected. This test should be able to be
run with guaranteed failure on unpatched code and then pass with current code.


I'm not sure how to create a BIST for something like that though. It would be
nice to have a built-in test for something like this.  Can a BIST mess with
the system time variable to create a condition guaranteeing a failure?
