Follow-up Comment #74, bug #31080 (group octave):

I just tested using a local MINGW64 build of Octave 10.0.0 and I am still
seeing the same error under Windows 11.

I am using the Octave GUI. I defined a simple function in a new file using the
Editor tab.

I then saved the function to a file with the name add_vec.m in the current
directory (which is my Windows home directory C:/Users/DennisC).

I switch back to the command window tab and try to execute the new function.

I confirmed that my source has the changes to the shift operator. My
liboctave/system/oct-time.cc file_time() methods are:

In the past this undefined error could be resolved by quitting and restarting
Octave, but that does not work now. I quit Octave and restarted the GUI. I
then reentered the commands above and got the same error. I then tried the
path(path()) workaround and it also failed.

Then I checked the path the function file was saved to by hovering my mouse
over the file's filename tab in the Editor. It was saved in my Windows home
directory at C:/Users/DennisC/add_vec.m. Then I noticed that the Current
Directory shown in the Octave toolbar is my MINGW64/MSYS2 home directory
C:\tools\msys64\home\DennisC. I quit and restarted Octave to verify that this
was the initial current directory. I repeated the test and again got the
undefined error.

I then used the Current Directory combo box on the toolbar to change the
Current Directory to my Windows home directory (where the file exists) and
repeated the failed command. The function executed as expected.

I then dumped my path to see where Octave is looking for functions.

The only directory that is not one of Octave's internal directories is ".",
the current directory. So it seems Octave is saving the new files to a
directory that is not on the path and not adding that directory to the path. 

I'm now trying to see if I can repeatably get it to save to some directory
other than the current directory.
