Follow-up Comment #12, patch #8919 (project octave):

Markus: I think we should just try removing that flag and see what happens. 
Then, if some necessary symbols are missing, export them as needed.  My guess
is that adding the export all symbols option was done because it was easier
than tackling the symbol export problem properly.
