Follow-up Comment #14, patch #8919 (project octave):
Reading back in bug #39454, there was already some awareness then that it
would rather be a temporary fix. So jwe's comment #12 is exactly right.
Well, here 'temporary' turns out to be 6.5 years.
I also read back in the discussion referenced in comment #10 that llvm
required the offending flag as well.
