??  I can't quite fathom how that could be -- that the messages would
actually get lost, in that case.  It's certainly different from the way I
handle mail, checking each unread message, and deleting or replying or
otherwise processing it as needed, until there's no unread messages
remaining.  However, if it works for you, that's what counts.  I'd still
like to understand, tho, but oh, well... (and it's headed off topic anyway).
