If you are running LMDE 201204, check the debian Sid unstable repository and
look for the instructions on adding it to your sources in synaptic.   Once you 
have it
there reload synaptic and search for pan.  It should show your installed 
version and
the latest version.  Click on upgrade and let synaptic do it's thing.  You will 
probably
get an error on emacs.  Does not seem to cause any problems though,  
As soon as you get it installed,  Uncheck the Sid unstable repository and 
reload again,
so you do not get a bunch of the Sid unstable downloads.

I have been running it for four or five days and have had no problems.
