Long answer: it has to be an extension or javascript. I've seen symmetric, 
password-based crypto done in pure JS - it might be possible to do OpenPGP.

That doesn't sound like a good idea for Social from a user freedom point of view.

It's DRM rather than secure communication, which would be a reasonable use of OpenPGP, because the intent is to prevent the user from accessing information on their own system, not to deliver it to them safe from attackers.
