981005 i reported: 
> (1) 2-8pre.2 saves the rc file on top of an existing rc file;
> (2) 2-8-1pre.6 saves the rc file if there isn't one already there;
> (3) 2-8-1pre.6 refuses to save the rc file if it already exists.
 
i have tried recompiling without  --enable-forms-options
-- NB INSTALLATION says default is `both' -- & toggling via  lynx.cfg 
with  #FORMS_OPTIONS:FALSE  FORMS_OPTIONS:FALSE  FORMS_OPTIONS:TRUE
-- NB INSTALLATION says this should work with default compilation --
& in all  3  cases i get the Option Form & refusal to overwrite  .lynxrc .

so i need to know how to compile 2-8-1pre.6 to get the old Options Menu
-- or is that the problem for some reason here? -- ,
which will allow me to narrow things down further.
