The only version of Pan that currently requires gtkspell is Pan 0.12.90, which 
is a *BETA* version. So any problems you have are your own fault for using it!  
 ;-P

Try 0.12.1 if you'd prefer a stable and usable Pan. It doesn't include spell 
checking.
