I'd like to slow this a little bit down.  There is a well documented
procedure

how to ask for new packages.  If you are no debian developer you can
ask for sponsoring and if you have a medicine related project which
should be included than your chances are high that I will sponsor it.
If there are some hurdles to get all things in these are for quality
issues (even if you stated above that Debian packages are more buggy
than Gentoo's I think that this works).

Try the net installer ISO (Beta) to install Sarge (testing) in case
you decided for Debian.  It should be much less challenging than the
old stable.
